Repairing Michigan's economic future

With Michigan Thrives we can turn the tide of our state's talent and prosperity.

Michigan is suffering from a growing talent gap.

Our unemployment rate is above the national average.
Our economic growth is below the national average.
And the vast majority of our employers are struggling to fill jobs.

This disparity threatens Michigan’s long-term economic and social well-being — and the situation is only worsening.

We can reverse this trend — but only if we work together.

To repair this damage before it’s too late, we must amplify partnerships between postsecondary education and the employment sector that will fuel an economic renaissance. Our state has unlimited potential, along with driven leaders from the postsecondary, business, and governmental sectors. We believe that, rallying as one, these leaders can employ a comprehensive, multi-pronged approach to create the public and political drive necessary to propel reforms forward.

To chart a path toward increased college completion, filled jobs, and economic prosperity, we will need to rally as one.

Partnering through Michigan Thrives

Michigan Thrives represents a strategic partnership repositioning higher education institutions as the engine of Michigan’s economic future, championed by a group of business and labor leaders. This partnership understands the urgent need to fuel Michigan’s economic renewal by closing the talent gap.

Together, we advocate for increased higher education access and expanded opportunities for Michigan students through public and private four-and two-year college and universities. This work aims to open up diverse pathways for all students to pursue economic opportunities in our state and make Michigan their home.
